As part of our operations to educate our stakeholders in the region, the Western North Regional office paid a courtesy call on Western North Regional House of Chiefs at Sefwi Wiawso, during the third quarter regional house of chiefs meeting. The team comprised Surv. ir. Tom Wilberforce Archer, the Regional Stool Lands Officer, Surv. Samuel Essiamah, Deputy Regional Stool Lands Officer and Mr. Isaac Akowuah, Regional Accountant.
The call
The call, was to formally introduce the new Regional Stool Lands Officer to the chiefs in the region and to sensitize Nananom on the operations, mandate, challenges and discuss possible ways to remedy the challenges of the office.
Land; the Greatest Resource
Speaking at the event, the Regional Stool Lands Officer expressed appreciation to the Administrator and Management for giving him the opportunity to head the region. He therefore, and hinted that, he was humbled to partner traditional leaders in managing land which is the greatest resource bequeathed mankind in the region. He threw more light on the mandates of the office, functions, disbursement formula, revenue sources and other aspects relating to the office. He further, touched on the massive improvement in our revenue performance of 2023 as against 2022 attributing it to opening of three more district offices at Bodi, Akontombra and Adabokrom, upscaling public education through community durbars, radio talk shows and advertisement amongst other measures.
Appreciation
Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, president of the National & Western North House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Council, appreciated the effort of the office in seeing the need to formally introduce the Regional Officer to Nananom, who are the major stakeholders of the office and most importantly for the education granted them. Lots of questions asked by the chiefs were thoroughly answered to the satisfaction of Nananom.
In his concluding remarks, the Regional Officer appealed to Nananom to make available information on all land transactions to the office and underscored the need for Nananom to educate prospective land grantees to pay their ground rents to the office for improved revenue mobilisation and disbursement for community development.
Committment to collaborate
On his part, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II tasked Nananom to continue to collaborate and assist the office to mobilise more revenue for Nananom and the community. The Regional Officer, on behalf of the Office, expressed gratitude to Nananom for accepting him warmly into the region and promised to work hard to continue the good work of his predecessor, Mr. John Larri to lift the image of the region and the office as a whole.
