The Western North regional management team embarked on a momentous stakeholder engagement with the Chiefs and Elders of the Sefwi Bekwai traditional council at the royal palace of Bekwaimanhene at Sefwi Bekwai. The overarching purpose of the visit was to formally introduce the new OASL Regional Stool Lands Officer to the chiefs and sub-chiefs of the Sefwi Bekwai traditional council. The team used the opportunity to sensitize Nananom on operations of the office, challenges confronting the office and discussed more possible ways of increasing revenue generation within their enclave amongst others.

Dignitaries present
In attendance were Oyeadieyie Basape Kojo Armah III – Omanhene of Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Council, divisional heads, queen mothers, sub-chiefs ‘odikros’ and caretaker chiefs of Donkonkrom, Dansokrom, Surano, Sukusuku, Akaasu, Ampenkro, Atronsu, Ahyiam, Adobewere amongst other communities. The official team comprised the Regional Stool Lands Officer Surv. ir. Tom Wilberforce Archer, Surv. Samuel Essiamah – Deputy Regional Stool Lands Officer, Mr. Andrew Ackah – Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai District Officer and Mr. Douglas Asihene – Bekwai Revenue Staff.
A key highlight of the meeting was a detailed presentation by the Western North RSLO. His presentation focused on the rationale for the establishment of the office of the Administrator of Stool Lands, the legal mandate as espoused in Act 267 of the 1992 Constitution, the types and categories of revenue collected by the office, the disbursement formula for sharing the revenues and the impact of the office in relation to developmental projects funded by the revenues collected. He emphasized on the need for effective collaboration between the office and Nananom to enable the Office harness the huge revenue potentials of the traditional enclave. In this regard, Nananom were advised to seek professional advice in the drafting of indentures and allocation and to forward list of all farmers in their communities to the office for effective revenue follow ups.

Oyeadieyie’s remarks
Oyeadieyie Basape Kojo Armah III appreciated the RSLO and his team for their effort in seeing the need to formally introduce themeselves to Nananom who are the major stakeholders of the operations of the office and most importantly for the education granted them. Lots of questions posed by the chiefs were thoroughly answered to the satisfaction of all participants.
In his concluding remarks, the RSLO appealed to Nananom to make available information on land transactions to the office and emphasized on the need for Nananom to educate prospective land grantees to pay their ground rents to the office.
